Thinking Of A Boudoir Session?
Wikipedia defines boudoir photography as “a photographic style featuring intimate, romantic, and sometimes erotic images of its subjects in a photographic studio, bedroom or private dressing room environment, primarily intended for the private enjoyment of the subject and his or her romantic partners”.
Boudoir sessions tend to be more of a suggestive nature when it comes to sexuality than art nude sessions. Sexy lingerie and soft lighting and poses are more suitable for your boudoir session. The amount of sexuality and revealing poses are totally dependent on the desires of the client.
Location Options For Your Boudoir Session
The choice of location is a personal choice for each client. Some prefer a comfortable location and so they choose to have the shoot in their own home. Others choose the studio for the setting. Still others might opt to rent a hotel room for an afternoon or evening to set the mood for their boudoir session. The choice is up to the client. One thing I advise clients is that choices of locations that require travel beyond a certain radius does require us to charge an additional fee due to the extra work involved to move the lighting and travel time.
Your choice of wardrobe is totally up to you. Some clients prefer more revealing lingerie while others prefer more casual clothing with a hint of sexuality such as only an open top, etc.
In other instances the client may opt for soft and sexy lingerie.
Once again, this all depends on what the client wants.
How Long Is The Session?
Once again, this all depends on what the client wants and the budget they have in mind for the session. A typical session runs around an hour for most of my bookings. The cost for an hour session is $200. I also offer 30 minute session for $100. Typically the 30 minute session is not long enough for the client to get comfortable in front of the camera, so I recommend at least the 1 hour session. This gives you the opportunity to change wardrobe several times and gives a wider variety of shots to choose from for the final set of photos you receive.
I have done sessions as long as 5 hours with lots of wardrobe changes and lighting and prop setups. For sessions longer than 2 hours the rate is $100/hr.
What Happens After My Session?
After your boudoir session I take all the images back to my edit suite and begin the process of editing your photos to make you look your best. I can remove stray hairs or other imperfections in the shot. I can also do beauty retouching which gives you a look more like you see in magazines. We can also decide to leave the photos as they are with only basic color correction and lighting enhancement if you prefer. This is up to the client as well.
For a look at how I do beauty retouching, you can read my tutorial on that at this link.
How Are My Photos Delivered?
You will receive a custom printed CD or DVD (depending on the number of finished photos from your boudoir session) in a case with your photo and the session date on the cover. These photos will be resized web versions for you to share with your significant other or other people through email or social media if you wish. You can choose from those photos which you wan to have prints or photo books made from.
If you decide you would like to have your own prints made you can license the full sized photos suitable for printing. You can license a single photo for printing at $10 each, or you can license the entire set of photos from your delivered photos for $250. You will then receive the full sized photos on electronic media which you can then send to the printer of your choice.
If you are worried about safety it is always a good idea to bring a friend. It’s preferable that you only bring one friend, as bringing a whole entourage can turn the session into a three-ring circus. But I always suggest to my female clients that they bring a friend to help them relax and lighten the mood.
It’s OK to bring a bottle of wine or champagne to help you relax too. They can also be used as props for some of the shots.
Although heavy drinking is not a good idea, a glass of wine can help you relax in front of the camera and you’ll be posing like a pro in no time.
